The mayor of Paris has started to replace old street lamps with LED lighting. The objective is primarily economic and ecological, since the consumption of LED is 8 to 10 times lower to halogen or incandescent bulb. The new lighting is particularly white, although warmer LEDs are available. This choice of a cold colour is optimised for surveillance cameras vision. In parallel, the number of surveillance cameras in Paris has increased almost tenfold since the 2015 terrorist attacks (1000 in 2010, 4000 in 2015, 37,000 in 2022). Aesthetics are always political.
