Behind a typical row façade with a garage lies a former warehouse hidden within a densely built urban block. The regular rhythm of a concrete skeleton structure fills the entire ground floor of the narrow, deep plot, where living spaces, a workshop, and outdoor areas seamlessly flow into one another. Two completely removed bays create a separation between the main building and the rear building. By also removing the last bay, the space receives light through large sliding windows on both sides. Centrally located across the five bays, a longitudinal opening is provided between two raised roof beams. Three metal grilles slide over one another, allowing the zenithal light to be filtered. The system, inspired by the cover mechanism of a steamship, runs on wheels and can be operated manually using a ladder in the rear patio.
