The house, built in 1979, was designed by Leif Larsen using robust materials and traditional construction methods. There are many fine qualities such as visible beams, beautiful wood and tile floors, and windows without sills that create a beautiful visual connection to the garden.
The project initially planned to include an extension, but instead, it evolved into an optimized and future-proof layout of the existing house, accommodating the whole family – beneficial for both the project budget and resource consumption.
The family’s desire for the house was light, light, and more light! By removing some small wall sections in the entrance and kitchen, views across the house were opened up. Efforts were made to preserve the existing window formats while adding some generous new ones in special places, specifically in the living room and kitchen. This invites the garden in even more, and the beautiful view can be enjoyed from both the kitchen and the dining table at the opposite end of the house. Part of the utility room has been converted to make room for a larger dining table framed by the newly established window with views to the front yard and the road. All existing windows are being replaced with raw aluminum frames, and the house will be refinished in a warm light gray-green shade in the spring of 2024.
