The Learning Center at the École Polytechnique Fédérale in Lausanne (EPFL) is a steel construction some 20,000 square metres in size, which stands on a concrete slab up to 80 centimetres in depth. Designed by the Japanese architects SANAA, this landscape of hills and slopes sweeps up to seven metres in height: a major challenge for both the structural engineers and the formwork firms.

Design-to-Production automated the process from planning through to CNC fabrication, and delivered detailed plans for the 1,458 sections of formwork, as well as the machining data for the computer-controlled production of almost 10,000 individual timber cleats.
