By etymology, ecology is the study of ecosystems. It is a science of complex systems, whose objective is the search for a sustainable state of balance. In this sense, architecture and ecology have everything to do together.
Today ecology in architecture is reduced to the thickness of an insulation, the use of a material labeled “ecological”, or the addition of greenery on a photorealistic image with photoshop. The meaning is reduced to the symbol.
A true ecology in architecture considers the global system of the building, its subsystems, their interdependencies, their granularity. Regardless of the image, the objective is to conceive sustainability.
