Our contemporary era is characterized by the reign of experts. Acronyms allow for quick and efficient communication among experts who share specialized knowledge in a particular field. From Wittgenstein’s perspective on language, acronyms could be seen as a way of creating a shared language and a sense of community among people who use them. However, it could be seen as a way of exerting power or influence by creating specialized language that excludes those who are not part of a particular group or community. Acronyms are a language in the language. So called experts create their own language so they can claim their status of expert.
